Meet Rachel Hewitt, she’s one of our expert Design Consultants here at Austintatious. Rachel has been with us since 2012. Everyone enjoys her high-spirited attitude and her ability to find the perfect solution!

We asked Rachel a few questions to help our customers to feel right at home in our showroom and supported by our friendly and knowledgeable team.

What is your attraction to interior design? 

I love making a space feel like a home. I have always been drawn to beautiful spaces and I love a room full of natural light. I am passionate about making my clients feel at peace when they walk into their home.

What publications or Instagram accounts do you like to follow for design inspiration?

Houzz, Austin Home, Luxe Magazine. On Instagram, I follow @lifeoncedarlane, @inspire_me_home_decor and of course the local designers that I partner with like  @chelseakloss, @clarkeedesign, @blairburtoninteriors, and @etchdesigngroup to name a few!

When you’re speaking with a new client, what are the first questions you ask?

I love working with people so first off I try to get to know them personally. What brings them to the Austin area or what inspired them to update their existing home? Then we discuss how they want to use each space and what goals we have in terms of light, the design of the room/window and how we need the window covering to function

When you first walk into a client’s home to assess a bare window, what do you look for? 

When walking into a home I first notice what is outside! We actually LOVE an open window when possible! In terms of functionality, we discuss light control, energy efficiency, privacy, etc. Do we have a view we’d like to preserve but need to block the intense sun? Do we have neighbors that can see in?  Then, of course, we discuss design goals- Would you like the window treatment to basically disappear and be functional or do we want to bring a decorative element like the Pirouettes/Silhouettes or Roman Shades & Custom Drapery.

What is your personal favorite window treatment and why?

The PowerView Pirouette is one of my favorites. It’s so versatile, sleek looking and the light coming into the room when in the open sheer position really softens up a space. It really does it all! You can have day time privacy but still see out, darken a room if needed or lift the shade all the way up and enjoy a clear view out the window

Do you have a favorite project that you’ve worked on recently? 

It’s so hard to narrow down but Jill Schultz of Nine Design Group and I recently installed a full home of Hunter Douglas PowerView Provenance Woven Woods and Hunter Douglas Design Studio Roman Shades. The client selected some of our recently released fabrics in the Design Studio collection, so it was really fun to see these gorgeous new fabrics installed!  We also did a few literise (cordless) roman shades which are a new option in this collection.

In your opinion, what is your favorite part of your job? 

Definitely connecting personally to my clients and my designer partners! Nothing makes me happier than hearing that a client absolutely loves their new window treatments
