Meet Tara Fagan, she’s one of our expert Design Consultants here at Austintatious. She has been with us for nearly six years, and has over 25 years of experience in the design and window covering industry!
We asked Tara a few questions to help our customers to feel right at home in our showroom and supported by our friendly and knowledgeable team.
What is your attraction to interior design?
I believe that how you decorate your space can affect your overall emotional health and well being. I’m passionate about helping others achieve their design goals in order to create an interior space that reflects their best selves.

When you’re speaking with a new client, what are the first questions you ask?
I’m a people person; so, first things first, I want to find out all that I can about my client. I’ll usually start with the basics like what brought them to Austin and how they’d describe their personality and style. Then, it’s important for me to understand their goals and plan for what their dream home looks like — specifically, what kind of window coverings they’re interested in, how they’re using their space, and what kind of functionality they need.
When you first walk into a client’s home to assess a bare window, what do you look for?
The first thing I notice when stepping into a new home is the view outside of the bare window. Then, I take into account the type of window as well as the casing, depth and placement. After I understand the logistics of the windows, I’ll find out from the client what is most important to them in terms of space-light control, privacy, form or function, and energy efficiency.
What is your personal favorite window treatment and why?
I love the Hunter Douglas Pirouette Sheer Shading with Powerview Motorization because it really does it all. It offers a subtle softness while offering every element of functionality and convenience. It’s truly a product where form and function come together beautifully.
Do you have a favorite project that you’ve worked on recently?
There are so many, it’s hard to narrow it down. I have really enjoyed working with Interior Designer, Amity Worrel on her personal home. She trusted me to select exactly the right treatment for each space and then selected amazing fabrics within each style. We will be finalizing her curtain installation in the next few weeks, and I can’t wait to see how everything finishes out.
In your opinion, what is your favorite part of your job?
By far and away it is connecting on a personal level with the clients, and having the opportunity to help them transform their home into a beautiful and peaceful haven that positively impacts them every single day.
